At NRC, our mission is to reduce risk, restore hope, and support successful community reintegration for individuals with serious mental illness. The Norfolk Regional Center (NRC) was established by an act of the Nebraska Legislature in 1885 and has a long-standing history of providing specialized behavioral health services to Nebraskans. NRC serves adult males who have been committed by a Mental Health Board for inpatient psychiatric treatment and require a secure, structured treatment environment.
In 2006, NRC expanded its services to include Nebraska’s Sex Offender Treatment Program. This specialized program focuses on reducing the risk of re-offense, enhancing public safety, and improving the quality of life for individuals receiving treatment. Through evidence-based therapeutic interventions, patients are provided opportunities to build skills that support successful community reintegration.
In 2018, NRC opened the Medical Support Program, which provides comprehensive nursing and medical care for men with significant physical health conditions in addition to psychiatric, cognitive, and age-related challenges. The program offers individualized services and activities designed to maintain optimal functioning while addressing each patient’s unique treatment and safety needs.
