Navigating the Digital Frontier: Exploring Technology and AI Integration for Personalized Clinical Practice
The first part of the conference is designed to equip psychologists with the expertise and capabilities to effectively utilize digital and artificial intelligence (AI) tools within their clinical practice. Attendees will acquire knowledge about diverse technologies applicable in clinical settings, develop strategies to identify opportunities for implementing technology, including AI, to enhance client outcomes, and learn how to choose and seamlessly integrate the most fitting digital tools. Ethical considerations related to the use of AI in mental healthcare will be comprehensively examined. Furthermore, we will delve into the complementary function of generative AI tools, such as chatGPT, in elevating psychological interventions. (See Dr. Sadeh-Sharvit's bio below.)

Law & Ethics of the Clinical Use of Artificial Intelligence: Implications in Clinical Practice
The afternoon session will cover while new and emerging technologies can provide clinicians with powerful and effective clinical tools, such technologies also have the potential to create a range of new challenges. In this session we will address the specific legal and ethical implications of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning within the practice of psychology. We will identify and discuss the evolving standards found in federal law, state law, and in the professional codes of ethics. Participants will gain the ability to identify and implement a legally and ethically sound approach evaluating and implementing new AI technologies in clinical practice. (See Dr. Ström's bio below.)

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the categories of AI-empowered psychological services that are applicable for different clinical purposes.
2. Prepare to incorporate AI tools in their clinical practice.
3. Assess the ethical implications of integrating AI tools in mental health settings, ensuring responsible and ethical use.
4. Use generative AI tools, such as chatGPT, in augmenting psychological interventions.
5. Identify the emerging ethical standards relating to clinical use of AI.
6. Apply federal HIPAA standards to the use of AI powered clinical tools.
7. Create strategies to effectively evaluate the clinical applicability of new technologies.

Presenter Bios
Shiri Sadeh-Sharvit, PhD., an Associate Professor of Research at Palo Alto University, is a distinguished clinical psychology researcher specializing in the integration of technology into therapeutic practices. Focused on optimizing psychological interventions through innovative therapist-technology collaboration, her work addresses critical gaps in traditional therapy settings, emphasizing real-world applications. With a grant-supported exploration of digital tools, including mobile apps and screening methods, Dr. Sharvit strives to enhance accessibility, engagement, and efficacy in mental health assessment and therapy while reducing stigma. Her contributions include research on early detection apps, seamless integration with therapy sessions, and the ongoing exploration of advanced digital tools within treatment protocols.
Eric Ström, JD, PhD, LMHC, is an attorney and Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Seattle, Washington. As an attorney, Eric provides legal counsel, consultation, and guidance to behavioral health professionals. Eric’s clinical practice is focused on providing counseling services to combat veterans and those in other high-stress professions. Eric currently serves on the American Mental Health Counselors Association Ethics Committee, and is the ethics advisor for the Washington Mental Health Counselors Association. Eric has taught a range of courses in counseling and professional ethics at a variety of graduate and undergraduate programs.
Eric earned a PhD in Counseling at Oregon State University, graduated cum laude from Wayne State University School of Law in Detroit Michigan, earned a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling Psychology from the Northwest School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University Seattle, attended the Hague Academy of International Law in the Hague Netherlands, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics from the University of Michigan.

The Nebraska Psychological Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Nebraska Psychological Association maintains responsibility for this program and its contents. Participants attending the live webinar can receive 6 CEs for psychologists as well as master's level clinicians, with full attendance required. No partial credit is awarded; late arrival or early departure will preclude awarding of CE credits for psychologists attending the live webinar. Those arriving more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time or leaving before the workshop is completed will not receive CE credits.
This program provides 3 hours applicable to NE’s Ethics CE requirement, and meets the criteria of an approved continuing education program for mental health practice.
